More Mill Fun

My roomie tugrik's brother-in-law Tony has a motorcycle customization shop called Black Hawk Customs. While talking with him about bikes, metalworking and such, he mentioned this fun idea for a custom design for the tank of his latest bike.

Well, I have a mill and a bunch of aluminum plates. Put idea to aluminum and powder-coating, and you get something like these:

First design

First design

This was the first pass of the design I did for him. He liked it a lot, but it didn't quite work for the tank he wanted to put it on, so we came up with the following instead:

Second design
This is still actually not the final product. We knew the moment the words came off the mill that it lacked an important something to make the letters cleaner. I ordered out for some custom milling bits, and they arrived yesterday. The third pass came off the mill last night, with bevelled edges for all the letters. Sweeet. I think this third pass is the final one.

Unfortunately, I have no photos of these yet. I'll post them later.
