Lamination

Glue laminating a 0.15 inch veneer of rosewood to a wavy maple board.

When the CarveWright carves patterns through the veneer, they should show as dark wood on a light wood field.

Maybe.

I hope.

I've never done this before, and this idea is more or less a moment of "Huh, I wonder if this'd work?"

We'll find out in about 2 days.

Would there be any problems down the road as the woods aged? Things like moisture causing them to warp or deform slightly cracking the glue?

If the grain matches and the glue joint is sound, it's very unlikely to happen, especially since they're both hardwoods.
