Bridge Under the River Kwai

Apparently sometimes it's just easier to make a bridge for the river
to go over the road, than to make the road bridge over the river.
Actually, I have no idea what the stream/periodic river in this pic is
called. It's a pic from above Ouray, CO, from the trip I took last
September. Note the Truck and SUV for scale. I'd love to see this
thing during a downpour.

Try spring runoff time. Remember the waterfalls off all the cliffs around Silverton in late June. It's even more impressive when the snow is really breaking up a bit earlier.

Neat! I've seen similar ones on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Depending on the elevation and terrain in that area, it could be an avalanche shelter as well (such as the ones on Wolf Creek Pass and Independence Pass), but the way that one is constructed, they definitely had the spring runoff in mind too.
