Electrical Immolation Attempt

I just got to witness Skippy the Wonder Electrician involuntarily attempt self immolation by short-circuiting our shop's 200 Amp 3-Phase mains, while wiring in a new circuit:

BLAM!

*Lights go out*
"You still alive over there?"
"I'm good."
"Ooookay."

Yeah. Starting to wonder about this guy.

You sure his name shouldn't be Sparky? Just make sure he doesn't let the smoke out of your breaker box.

"More Power!"
And his name wouldn't happen to be "Tim Taylor" would it?

We take circuit breakers for granted! Here they are saving our ass again.

I bet the arc at the panel when that happened was impressive. ;)

200 Amp. Jesus.

Iiiiiiiii'm just glad you didn't have to call the power company to come scrape Skippy off the floor with a giant spatula. Gosh.

THIS IS WHY I ONLY TOOK ONE POWER EE COURSE

I gotta admit, it's the first time I've ever seen anyone pop a 200A breaker.

It was loud.

I saw what happened when there was a ground fault in one leg of a 3-Phase buried house line once. The circuit breaker at the main down the street tripped with a *ka-thud* I could hear 50 meters away. I have the pieces of the cable that was replaced at home. About a full inch of the metal in the wire vaporized and the plastic housing at the failure point is shredded and melted from the event.

Skippy is very lucky his new nick-name isn't "Crispy".

Oooooo I would say Skippy has a bit of leprechaun in his ancestry, otherwise he could have easily been "Dead Skippy!"

My dad had that happen once. Took a huge chunk out of the wire cutters and launched them to the other side of the room. Good thing he was on the wooden stepladder and wearing gloves.

I did that once at our company when I plugged in a space heater. .

I love me some electrical explosions. Best I've seen was a 400A that blew at an apple processing plant. Took out a set of fire doors and blew them across the parking lot.
