Look Ma! No Computer!

I just modified my 3d printer slightly to talk to an LCD display over the I2C bus. It shows position and temperatures currently, without having to be tethered. The display module can have a keypad attached to it, so I plan to have a menu button that would let you control the fabber and select files to build off of an SD card without a computer connection. Exciting stuff!

Well I soldered up a keypad today, but now I need to assemble the rev 2.5 printer from the parts of the rev 2.0 printer.

Would the files have to be in gcode, or would it take an stl file and do appropriate conversion via a dedicated control machine?

(Both are nifty and useful; I'm just mentally going over what I'd need to do to get a d30 printed };>.)

You would supply me with an STL file, which I'd slice and generate G-code from. The current software then needs that converted into an s3g file which is basically motion commands. Think microcode for motion. Future version would build directly from g-code.
