Load Bearing Villains

It occurred to me, while watching the end of Return of the King, that Sauron has to be nearly the ultimate example of a load bearing villain. His ego was evidently big enough to support the whole land of Mordor, as when he was destroyed, the ground crumbled and Mt. Doom blew it's top.

Most villains seem satisfied to have their fortress or island lair collapse when they die. Sauron took out something like a quarter of the continent with him.
