Well I managed to get belfry.com's machine back up, and all the forums and galleries working again.

Really made myself exhausted this weekend, though. Didn't realize how bad it was until today when I slept myself out this morning and was still tired enough that I fell asleep for a couple hours on the couch this evening.

Ah well. At least things are settled now. Even managed to leave the house finally, to just sit quietly beside a local stream and de-stress.

Forums and galleries on belfry.com? Where?

I wish I had a stream nearby that I could relax next to.

The machine in question is klor.fbrtech.com, but that machine hosts:
The NICE forums
The Griffin Park forums
The Belfry web comics index
The Further Confusion fursuit photoshoot gallery
My personal photo gallery
Plus other folk's personal photo galleries.

Okay, some interesting stuff. Have you ever thought about starting a forum for The Belfry Comics Index?

I've considered it at times.

Forums for individual comics are useful and fun, but that is already pretty well covered by places like The NICE, and the Keen* forums, so there's no real point to my duplicating their effort and fracturing their forum audience.

Forums for the comics index itself seem kind of counter-productive, though. The only things I see getting posted there are gripes about index downtime or slowness, gripes about KeenSp* downtime and slowness, gripes about comics not updating, and feature requests that I'm honestly too uninspired to implement lately. As the old addage goes, "nobody notices when things go right", and since I'm not actually providing content for folks to discuss, it just strikes me that Comics Index forums would be depressing to read.

So I've not added forums yet. I have considered a tagboard, though.

I'm not sure what you mean by a tagboard. Can you explain, or give an example (or an example of a site I can go look at)?

Yes, I did mean a forum for the comics index itself, and no, it would not be a place to discuss individual comics, lack of updates thereof, or problems with the sites that host them (and admittedly, it would likely attract a number of such misdirected posts). Problems, feature requests, and tips for using the site would be on topic, while general discussions about webcomics that are not about a specific comic would be a gray area.

Finally, in case no one has said it lately (or even if they have), thank you for operating and maintaining the comics index. You provide a valuable and useful service for fans of webcomics, and you make life a lot easier for the many of us who make use of your site to follow our favorite characters through their lives, adventures and misadventures. Kudos!

On the lower right of cyantian.keenspot.com is a tagboard. It's like a single-topic short-post forum without a history. Generally gets used to leave short comments like kudos and such.

Since it's not expected to be persistent, it's easy to wipe if it gets out of hand. But it adds to a sense of community, as folks point out comics they like, etc.

Oh, and you're welcome. Though honestly, I made the comics index mainly out of frustration, wanting a place to collect links to my own favorite comics. It just kind of grew. I am glad it's useful to so many people, though. I'm looking at ways to make better use of that audience now, to let the community sort of guide the index. It's definitely already too big for me to manage alone, though I have a few editors helping.
