Lists of shame(?)

There's a list of 50 worst songs ever that was just put out by Blender.

Bah. They have no sense of fun music. I rather like most the songs on their list.

I'm just rather surprised that Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" only just made it on the list at #50.

Sounds like a pretty damning commentary of their selection process to me! :)

Odd, usually "Worst Songs Ever" lists have "In the Year 2525" and "MacArthur Park" on them.

I see a couple songs I like. I think "We Didn't Start the Fire" is one the better tunes of the last couple decades. There are a couple tunes on the list I think belong there ("Achy Breaky Heart" for instance) but most of them I either simply don't recognize or figure they were overplayed - and that's not a problem with the tune itself, it's a problem of poor radio playlists.

Anybody know where the full list can be found? The article only lists the top ten and a sampling of the rest. I'm curious if my all-time most hated song (David Geddes - "Run, Joey, Run") made the list.

From the article, it looks like you can find it in May edition of Blender magazine. Also,
"Blender and VH1's TV special "50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs ... Ever" airs May 12."

So you like Achy Breaky Heart, do ya? Now your DarqSecret is revealed, Dr. Desmara! You can't hopt to take over the world now!

Being that musical tastes are a very subjective thing I'm more than sure that most of the songs on their /worst of/ list be songs I like. I mean, really...You can pretty much mark off every Country/Western and boy band song from that list and what's left will be a pile of songs I really like. Except Ebony and Ivory. There's never a call for Ebony and Ivory.

And we just don't talk about Vanilla Ice [Ice Ice Baby]...

Screw Blender.
I read URB anyway.

Heh. 'We Built This City' has a special place in my heart. :) And I like a lot of those songs just from the ones you listed.

Maaaybe they mean 'worst' in terms of 'bad', y'know, 'good?'

Agreed. Also, to quote the article:

Blender describes 1985's "We Built This City" as "the truly horrible sound of a band taking the corporate dollar while sneering at those who take the corporate dollar."

...er, right. Maybe I should reread the lyrics, but I'm fairly sure I never got that idea from that song.

If it was a Pitchfork Media article, the list would be "Anybody who isn't Radiohead or Tool..."

Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka said it best: Such lists are designed to generate controversy and boost ratings.
