The scale of things

Tor, his dad and I went to Yosemite today as a day trip. While there, I took some interesting photos that give an idea of the scale of things. We stopped at Glacier Point to get a good vista of the valley, and I took the following series of photos:

First is a photo of the entire valley, taken at a 22mm zoom. This is a fairly wide angle lens on my 1.6 crop factor digital SLR.

The second photo corresponds to the inset rectangle on the first photo. It was taken at a 400mm zoom, which is a pretty high zoom factor.

The third picture is a crop of the actual pixels of the second photo, showing just the inset rectangle area from the second photo. Note the mountain climber in the middle of the image. That's a big rock.

I know exactly where you took that photo, too.

It really drives home the idea of the scale of things though.
